Interior Renovation Proposal

This proposal was designed for a church built in 1950 in a traditional gothic style. In the 1975 the church was renovated in the wake of Vatican II, but since that time the church had not been renovated or repaired in any way. The existing conditions were poor, with a number of finishes aged and drab, including sanctuary carpet having faded from a dark red to a pale green.

This proposed restoration was to update the sanctuary, restore and return the original altar to its intended location with a new reredos installed on the rear wall. The design emulated but was not a copy of the original designs from the 50s. A new baptistry was also designed to emphasize the importance of this sacred rite of initiation.
